PLAY BALL!

I was 9 the last time the Baltimore Orioles won the World Series. I thought we'd go every year (boy was I wrong). Those were good days. Reagan was in the White House, and the Orioles -- and Redskins' -- were winners.

Every "opening day" I was convinced "this would be our year." I remember listening to John Miller and Joe Angel calling those O's games. The worst part was that at night, Frederick's 930 am radio station would cut the power (this is before cable TV reached out to my house). Sadly, the O's never made it back to "the show."

Those quixotic days are long gone, replaced by "real world" responsibilities and a MLB owner who is not only a leftist...but he fired John Miller (the "voice" of the Orioles) -- and he even fired the best manager in baseball.

Today, the Washington Nationals take the field. The grass is freshly cut, the hotdogs are on the grill, and we are in first place. I'm looking forward to a new season...I think Americans are always looking forward to the future.
