Q & A
Question:
Mr. Lewis, I heard you speak at the June, Republican Party of Texas Convention.
I read all of your emails and have learned much from them. I currently am working on a State Representative campaign, and I was hoping you have any ideas on how to get more yard signs out, during the last week. We conducted a phone bank, and recieved a number of homes who did want to support by having a sign, but most of the district-- yard wise, has very, very few signs. We still have several hundred signs at the office and I want to make sure we don't waste them.
My candidate is very strong and without being vain, will win. We do have lots of 4x4 signs all over the district as well. But in regards to excess yard signs, any suggestions?
Answer:
Thank you very much! Here are a few ideas:
- Go door to door to EVERY house on major roads, such as "main street." Normally, I advise folks to hit targeted doors (likely/registered voters). But if you want to get signs out in a hurry, this works.
- Use the argument that "Election Day is almost here, so the signs will only be up for a couple of days." By making this argument, more homes will say "yes" to letting you put up a sign...
- Put 2 signs up per house. When someone says you can put one up, put up 2 -- one at each end of the property. If the house is a corner lot, this is especially important.
- Some areas will allow you to put up signs in public areas (such as highway on-ramps, etc.) -- as long as you tear them down promptly. If this is legal in your area, your problem is easily solved. Drive around the night before the election and put up your signs all over the place. Just make sure to follow the law. You don't want it to backfire.
