7 Common Political Smears

As Politico reports, a new book titled "Anything for a Vote: Dirty Tricks, Cheap Shots, and October Surprises in U.S. Presidential Campaigns" details the top 7 political smears.

They are as follows:

7. "You're not tough enough!" - This has been aimed at basically everyone: Thomas Jefferson, Jimmy Carter, everyone running today.

6. "You'll drive us into war!" - The reverse of the above. Dubya is the reigning boldface smearee for this one.

5. "You're too old!" - Anyone say John McCain? But, of course, a plethora of other old dudes - William Henry Harrison, Dwight Eisenhower, Ronald Reagan and Bob Dole, natch.

4. "You're an egghead!" - Imagine someone using that in today's election?

3. "You're an idiot!" - Well.

2. "You're a slut!" - Take your pick.

1. And ... the No. 1 favorite attack: "You're drunk all the time!"
