Doug Hoffman (NY-23) Appeals to Conservative Bloggers for Help
David Keene of the American Conservative Union (ACU) just hosted a blogger conference call with Doug Hoffman, the Conservative Party candidate for U.S. Congress in NY-23.
Keene opened the call by saying that in backing Hoffman for Congress, he wants to "send a message to the NRCC and the RNC" that "this stuff has got to stop." Presumably, he means the GOP should stop anointing liberal Republicans.
Keene cited former U.S. Senator (and Bill Buckley's brother) Jim Buckley's election, saying historically winning 3rd party campaigns break late when people see their votes won't merely be a protest vote. Keene also said he hopes Hoffman's victory in NY-23 will "revitalize" the NY Conservative Party to be the GOPs "conscience".
Hoffman also made several direct appeals to bloggers, saying, "We can win this race with the help of your readers." He added that "Erick Erickson's RedState blog has certainly been helping us out a lot." And he called on conservative bloggers to help appeal to Glenn Beck, Mitt Romney, and Mike Huckabee to publicly support his candidacy.
