The Double Standard Debate on Banks, Autos

I was on 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue last night with David Shuster and Firedoglake's Jane Hamshire. Here's the segment on the double standard between the auto industry and the banking industry (my part comes in at about the 3:48 mark):

... One note, regarding the unfairness of this, I mistakenly said "Lehman Bros. gets bailed out and others fail" -- obviously, it was the other way around (Lehman Bros. was allowed to fail while everyone else was bailed out) -- though the point that government is picking winners and losers remains true.

Subliminal Messaging From Politicians

Politico has an interesting column up today on the topic of "code words." Here's an excerpt:

"The code words matter, how you dress matters, how you speak matters; it's all subliminal messaging, and all politicians use it,' said Michael Fauntroy, an assistant professor of public policy at George Mason University, who specializes in race and American politics. 'Ronald Reagan used to talk about making America the shining city on a hill, which is about America as divinely inspired, and it has a deep vein in the evangelical conservative movement. It goes on all the time, and there are so many circumstances when only the target people get the message."
